After the referendum I want to reassure you that I will do everything to get the best deal for the North West

Dear all,

I wanted to write to you after the result of the EU referendum.

The political landscape is changing quickly, however, I wanted to reassure you that I will continue to represent the North West and will work hand in hand with our local government leaders to get the best deal for the North West. I will still be your MEP until the UK formally leaves the EU in approximately two years time.

These are very challenging times and we are already looking into what steps we can take to mitigate the damage to our local residents and economies. Liverpool City Region, Manchester, South Lakeland, Stockport and Trafford clearly voted Remain, in other North West local authorities the result was close. It is our duty to make sure that this is heard and represented as we progress through Brexit.  I know people are concerned about what happens next, as I am – but I will be working to minimise any issues and ensure the Government works to restore stability and fairness.

As long as I am your elected representative, I will endeavour to do whatever I can to help. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any problems or issues that you think I may be able to help with.

It is time to work together, heal the divisions in our country and negotiate the best outcome we can for all of the North West. We are stronger when we work together for the good of the region.

We have to protect jobs, rights, our environment, international research and our advanced manufacturing base and, most importantly, our most deprived communities and most vulnerable people.

Europe has done so much to regenerate our region, train our people, defend workers rights and provide the largest single market for our goods and services.

We should be leading on the international stage, especially for our young people.

It’s now more important than ever that we take power back from Whitehall into our city regions and region to build stronger communities and a stronger economy based on Labour values.

I also wanted to thank every one who has supported us and the Labour Team during the Referendum. It has been tough, but I am incredibly proud to know so many wonderful people and activists.

As ever, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

With my very best wishes,
