Labour MEPs: Cameron must be honest on Britain’s place in Europe
Responding to David Cameron’s speech outlining his renegotiation demands today, Glenis Willmott MEP, Labour’s Leader in the European Parliament, said:
“Whatever happens through Cameron’s negotiations, we cannot afford for Britain to become marginalised, its voice not heard at the table when decisions affecting our future are made.
“Maintaining British influence must be key in the coming months.
“Between now and the referendum, we will continue to make the case for our membership of the EU, and keep campaigning for a Europe that changes and develops to meet the challenges we are facing.
“From the eurozone crisis to the refugee crisis, the biggest humanitarian crisis since the second world war, there are problems which can only be solved at European Union level, and Britain should be playing a part in that.
“There are no circumstances in which we would be better off by quitting – and the Prime Minister should be honest about that fact.”
